I started my summer with getting ready for next year. It was super hot
around here so I spent most of my time inside making felt stories.
Felt stories are one of my literacy workstations that is also used often
during choice time. The children really like playing with the stories, songs
and poems that they know. I introduce them by showing the children the story as
I read or sing it. I then pass out pieces to the children and do the poem until
everyone has had a turn to come up to the felt board.
I generally find that students start using the story that day but if not, then I do
the same process until they do start using it. They don't use it until they are
comfortable with the materials.
This is one way that we play as we learn.
